Unlimited Routs Fatal Errors for 1st Win

Istorya pummels Metaphil for 2nd win in Christmas League

Unlimited surprised Fatal Errors with a stunning 1-2-2 defense after the half and used a 21-6 3rd quarter run to take control of the game. Team captain Thadz Engaling rattled off two straight triples to start the run and point guard DJ Edquid pestered the opposing guards as Fatal Errors struggled against the sudden change in defense. Mark Manubag pitched in 15 points to lead a balanced offensive attack that saw each player score at least 3 points. Roger topscored for Fatal Errors with 18 and Santamaria added 15. Unlimited had to lean on Mark Manubag in the first quarter to buck a slow start that saw the first quarter end at 11-all. Manubag scored 9 of his 15 in the first quarter. Unlimited's revamped second unit delivered a slim 3-point lead at the half, 27-24. The starting unit then regrouped to deliver the virtuoso 3rd quarter performance, 48-30. Unlimited then cruised to victory in the 4th, 68-50.

Later in the night, Istorya toyed with Metaphil in the first three quarters and built enough cushion to hold off a fierce Metaphil rally in the 4th. Istorya appeared to be on a way to a blowout with a 47-20 score line at the half and 63-37 at the end of three but Herbert Enclonar knocked down three triples to lead a 4th quarter rally that saw Metaphil outscore Istorya 31-17 in the 4th. Istorya built enough cushion to keep Metaphil at bay 81-66. Bojoe Ocana scored a tournament high 26 points  for Istorya and got much help from Stradnus Vale and John Rivera who pitched in 19 and 14 respectively. Herbert Enclonar topscored for Metaphil with 24.

Tribu M Stuns Metaphil in Christmas League Opener

Istorya holds off Unlimited at the stretch

Chowking Mariano lived up to his star billing as he scored 21 points to lead Tribu M past a stunned Metaphil squad, 66-49. John Flanco topscored for Metaphil with 13 markers but had little help from his teammates. Veteran Herbert Enclonar struggled with 7 markers to show for Metaphil.

In the second game, Istorya leaned on their veteran experience to hold off an undermanned but stubborn Unlimited squad. Unlimited took the first quarter 15-12 and the half, 32-31. Istorya regrouped to take the 3rd canto, 49-45. Unlimited kept it close with timely hits from new big man recruit Edgar Dedios but couldn't sustain the run and eventually succumbed to the veteran smarts of Istorya, 66-57.

Azkals Aim for the Finals!

Hentai try to avoid sweep

The Azkals are a win away from clinching a finals spot in the inaugural season of the Cebu Recreational Basketball Association as they face the Hentai Sunday Club on Friday, 13 July 2012 at the YMCA Indoor Basketball Court.

The Azkals took a convincing Game 1 victory over the undermanned Hentai team who terribly missed their big men and having to settle with wingman Jonas Cuayzon manning the middle. The Azkals will again rely on the trio of big men Pepito and Ponce and guard Rhedan Mora while Hentai eagerly awaits the return of big men Pippo Perocho and Mark Manubag as well as playmaker Daniel Edquid.

Quarterfinal Preview on May 18

Schedule for 18 May 2012

9 pm   -  Hentai versus Free Agents
10 pm -  Angry Birds versus USC Law

Its the penultimate play date for the first round of the Cebu Recreational Basketball Association season 1 tournament and what a fitting way to do it than to have a glance of two likely quarterfinal match-ups. The  heavily-favored Hentai Sunday Club will face off against the lowly Free Agents squad whose only win came by default over T-Boyz. Both USC Law and Angry Birds are mired in a three-way battle for 4th place in the team standings, with the Azkals also eyeing the spot.

The USC Law and the Angry Birds have set their goals on finishing at the fourth spot after the first round schedule of the Cebu Recreational Basketball Association Season 1 tournament as they face separate opponents on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the YMCA Indoor Court.

The USC Law will face Hentai, a team that has put together 4 straight victories after losing their opening game to league-leaders PYFBA. Interestingly though, Hentai's last two wins were by default as the Azkals and the Angry Birds failed to show up in their scheduled match-ups. USC Law on the other hand are on a two-game roll thanks to a heart-pounding overtime victory over the T-boyz and then riding on the cushion of a 15-point penalty for the Azkals who showed up late for their game. USC Law awaits the return of forward Kevin Corbita who missed the game against the Azkals.

On the other hand, the struggling Angry Birds will face the unpredictable Brave Maroons who are also trying to solidify their hold of the third spot. The Angry Birds have lost three straight after winning its first two assignments. The youthful and game Brave Maroons are coming off a difficult loss to league leaders PYFBA but are upbeat as they will need only one more win to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. While their last assignment will be against the lowly T-boyz, the Maroons want to finish the first round on a winning streak. The Maroons will be playing without forward Winston Panal. Also doubtful are forward Carl Dalid and point guard Ashley Villardar.

Games on Friday, 16 March 2012:
YMCA Indoor Basketball Court
9pm    Brave Maroons versus Hentai
10pm  Free Agents versus PYFBA

PYFBA seeks to break a tie atop the standings of the Cebu Recreational Basketball Association Season 1 tournament as they battle the unpredictable Free Agents squad that came off a heartbreaking loss against early league leader Angry Birds. T-boyz, Azkals, USC Law seek first win in tournament

Games on Friday, 9 March 2011:
9pm   USC Law vs PYFBA
10pm T-boyz vs Azkals

PYFBA looks to build on a convincing debut victory as they take on the winless USC Law team on March 9, 2012 in the ongoing Cebu Recreational Basketball Association Season 1 tournament at the YMCA Gym. The T-boyz and the Azkals also look for a first win as they face-off in the second game of the double-header.

PYFBA look to lean on the dynamic duo of Saballa and Velayo who combined for 47 points in their win against Hentai Sunday Club while USC law pins its hopes on the shoulders of league-leading scorer Frank Dinsay.

The Azkals hope to erase the bitter loss to archrivals Maroons as they take on the struggling T-boyz who will need more than the efforts of Odulio and Wendell Kwan to get better results.

Meanwhile CRBA Commissioner Thadz Engaling has issued a memorandum to mete a one(1) game suspension to players who have committed a second technical foul, one(1) game suspension on the fourth technical foul, two(2) games suspension on the 6th technical foul and a season ban for an 8th technical foul.

Benjo Rodriguez scored a team high 12 points while Mod Gallardo and Sean Lapus took over in the 4th quarter to hold off a stubborn Team Free Agents squad in Day 3 of the Cebu Recreational Basketball League Season 1 tournament. In the second game, Sunday Club leaned on the scoring of Jonas Cuayzon and Mark Manubag who had 14 apiece. With the win, the Angry Birds claimed top spot in the leaderboard.

Team Free Agents scored a league record low for points in a quarter with just 2 points to show in the first quarter(courtesy of Mark Pantonial) and lowest point production in a half with 6. Mark Pantonial caught fire in the 3rd period, scoring 8 of his game-high 13 points but Michael Gumagay missed 2 free throws off a technical foul called on the Angry Birds' Bryan Maranga. Randolf Alegre then led a spirited rally by the Free Agents in the 4th quarter scoring all of his 6 points in the period but Gallardo hit 5 crucial points in the 4th quarter while Lapus used his size well to fish for fouls while going steady at the line. Lapus scored 5 of his 7 points in the 4th quarter.

In the second game, Manubag and Cuayzon combined for 18 first quarter points to help Team Sunday surge ahead of  T-boyz and never looked back from there. Daniel Edquid and Joel scored a combined output of 9 in the 2nd period to maintain Team Sunday's lead. T-boyz staged a rally in the 3rd canto behind co-captain Wendell Kwan and the debuting Edmund Odulio who combined for 14 points in the period but timely three point bombs from Carl Embalzado and the continued onslaught of Cuayzon kept the T-boyz at bay. Kwan led another spirited T-boyz rally in the 4th scoring 6 points as the T-boyz outscored the Angry Birds 16-10 in the 4th quarter, but the Sunday Club managed the clock and their lead well to prevail in the end. The loss relegated the T-boyz to the bottom of the standings.

The Maroons leaned on the steady hands of Eric Perpetua, Ken Estenzo and Joseph Esteban late in the 4th quarter as they hold off the Azkals, 53-43 in the second day of the Cebu Recreational Basketball Association Season 1 tournament at the YMCA Gym. In the second game, PYFBA relied on the scoring of Velayo and Saballa to beat Sunday Club, 67-45.

Perpetua scored 9 of his game-high 15 points in the second half, Estenzo dropped 5 of his 14 and Esteban fired 6 of his 11 points in the 4th quarter as the Maroons fend off a late-game rally by the Azkals. Perpetua and Ken Estenzo then took over in the second period as the former dropped in 6 points and the latter had 8 points spiked by two three-pointers. The Azkals staged a spirited comeback  in the 4th quarter behind big man Erwin Ozares and wingman Jecon. Ozares was however called for a technical foul(for a dangerous foul) late in the 4th quarter and the Maroons retook the momentum.
