T-boyz, Azkals, USC Law seek first win in tournament

Games on Friday, 9 March 2011:
9pm   USC Law vs PYFBA
10pm T-boyz vs Azkals

PYFBA looks to build on a convincing debut victory as they take on the winless USC Law team on March 9, 2012 in the ongoing Cebu Recreational Basketball Association Season 1 tournament at the YMCA Gym. The T-boyz and the Azkals also look for a first win as they face-off in the second game of the double-header.

PYFBA look to lean on the dynamic duo of Saballa and Velayo who combined for 47 points in their win against Hentai Sunday Club while USC law pins its hopes on the shoulders of league-leading scorer Frank Dinsay.

The Azkals hope to erase the bitter loss to archrivals Maroons as they take on the struggling T-boyz who will need more than the efforts of Odulio and Wendell Kwan to get better results.

Meanwhile CRBA Commissioner Thadz Engaling has issued a memorandum to mete a one(1) game suspension to players who have committed a second technical foul, one(1) game suspension on the fourth technical foul, two(2) games suspension on the 6th technical foul and a season ban for an 8th technical foul.

Benjo Rodriguez scored a team high 12 points while Mod Gallardo and Sean Lapus took over in the 4th quarter to hold off a stubborn Team Free Agents squad in Day 3 of the Cebu Recreational Basketball League Season 1 tournament. In the second game, Sunday Club leaned on the scoring of Jonas Cuayzon and Mark Manubag who had 14 apiece. With the win, the Angry Birds claimed top spot in the leaderboard.

Mark Pantonial caught fire in the 3rd period, scoring 8 of his game-high 13 points but Michael Gumagay missed 2 free throws off a technical foul called on the Angry Birds' Bryan Maranga. Randolf Alegre then led a spirited rally by the Free Agents in the 4th quarter scoring all of his 6 points in the period but Gallardo hit 5 crucial points in the 4th quarter while Lapus used his size well to fish for fouls while going steady at the line. Lapus scored 5 of his 7 points in the 4th quarter.

In the second game, Manubag and Cuayzon combined for 18 first quarter points to help Team Sunday surge ahead of  T-boyz and never looked back from there. Daniel Edquid and Joel scored a combined output of 9 in the 2nd period to maintain Team Sunday's lead. T-boyz staged a rally in the 3rd canto behind co-captain Wendell Kwan and the debuting Edmund Odulio who combined for 14 points in the period but timely three point bombs from Carl Embalzado and the continued onslaught of Cuayzon kept the T-boyz at bay. Kwan led another spirited T-boyz rally in the 4th scoring 6 points as the T-boyz outscored the Angry Birds 16-10 in the 4th quarter, but the Sunday Club managed the clock and their lead well to prevail in the end.
